With music that has been self described as being brutally beautiful.........Sevin has a sound and style all thier own. In the shadows of such musical forefathers as The Deftones and Tool along with more recent influential bands like System of a Down, Glassjaw and Staind in this genre of music, Sevin tries to create in the same mold yet exploring very different territories. "We think of ourselves as the kind of band that writes songs you can bob your head to, songs that you can pit to, and songs that you can F*@k to. Its very diverce and takes a lot of sudden turns. When we write our music or come up with our ideas about how we approach this band, we do it with a lot of integrity. We dont take our message and put it right in your face, we have a certain amount of subtlety with our lyrics. Its our similar ideas and outlooks on life that I think makes this band work. When it comes right down to it, the music is almost secondary to what we are trying to do as a whole. The music is just a medium to express ourselves. We all have so many points we want to get across and think we are able to do that with our intruments. With so much adversity in the world its rare to find something that you can pull a positive attitude from and thats what we try to do with our music. Hopefully people are able to look at our music a little deeper than music is usually looked at. Most music today has such a shallow feeling to it. Not a lot of people are able to concentrate on the music other than the fact that theres a beat playing ya know? I think thats whats going to make or break us. Whos going to be able to dig a little deeper and pull feeling and emotion from our music."
Sevin was put together in September of 2001. All 4 band members are from a small palm tree laiden suburb of Los Angeles known as Simi Valley in southern California. Josh, Jeremy and Erik all went to highschool together. Josh and Erik had played in several bands before starting Sevin. Looking for a drummer, they decided to go with Joshs older brother Jim. In late September, Josh and Erik found Jeremy and brought him in for a tryout and he stuck. His melodic voice, amazing writting ability, along with his dedication and drive were exactly what they were looking for. With sonic bass lines, melodic, grinding yet almost erie guitar riffs, driving drum beats and searing vocals.....Sevin looks to infect the Southern California music scene with thier dynamic brand of emo-core rock. Other things that people should know: I love to play guitar and I especially love to play guitar that is driven by the emotions that every day life has bestowed upon my little soul. A lot of my guitar riffs are driven by the fact that I build up anger on top of sadness on top of frustration then i tend to release it through my music. It gives me an edge. Musically my influences I would have to say are the Deftones,Glassjaw,Blindside,Tool,Incubus,and a little Zao thrown in for good measures. Right now I am hooked on the "Everything you ever wanted to know about silence" album by Glassjaw. I gotta shout out to my boys in "InMemory" they have been such a vital part of our growth in our music and I can thank them enough. Time for my shameless plugs...... I would like to thank Ibanez guitars, Peavy, Puma shoes, Dragon eyewear, and the Dickies clothing company. and I cant forget the biggest inspiration in my life, my girl Dasha who makes my crazy day to day life all worth the while by givin me my moment of Tranquility. Other things people should know: I was born and raised in sunny southern California. Lived in Simi Valley for most of my life. My biggest musical influence would have to be my dad. He always had an acoustic guitar so one day when I was about 15 I picked it up and he showed me how to play a few chords. Now I play drums....go figure. Music has pretty much been my life ever since. I have really gotten into Glassjaw because of Erik. I love the Deftones, Korn, Tool, Incubus, Fiona Apple, System of a down, Tori Amos, Pennywise, Factory 81, Downset, and Stabbing Westward. Would like to give thanks to My family (my mom and dad for being so supportive and letting us use the garage, My brother Jon for letting me use his drums, couldnt have done this without ya brotha), friends and everyone who has had an impact on my life (good or bad) because those are the people that have made me who I am today. A big shout to all the people that come out and listen to our music....you guys are what its about. Without you, this wouldnt be possible.
